Hi, I’m Chelsea.

I edit books. It’s what I do, and it’s what I love. I’ve been called a “natural” by clients and employers.

I studied English in college, all the while maintaining creative writing as a hobby. Living in West Virginia, there isn’t a huge amount of opportunity for creatives in the publishing industry, and upon graduation I took a one-eighty and found myself delivering mail along rural routes. During that time, I became involved in online critiquing groups and quickly learned that I have an even greater passion for editing than I do for writing my own material.

And so, I delivered by day and critiqued by night. Over those few years, I delivered countless packages, handed out boxes and boxes of dog treats, and I’m now an expert at driving with my left arm and left foot, but ultimately, being a mail carrier wasn’t my calling—being an editor is.

Flash forward to now. I am Acquisitions and Lead Editor at BHC Press. Prior to this, I gained invaluable experience through my work with Oghma Creative Media, as well as through freelancing for other publishing houses. I have been trusted with many manuscripts and provided varying levels of editing; though my strengths and preferred areas of work are development and comprehensive line editing.

Above all, building solid relationships with talented authors has been the most rewarding part of working in publishing. I live for the teamwork and partnership between author and editor. I’m known for being exhaustive in my efforts to assist my authors and am always candid, accessible, encouraging, and meticulous. Going above and beyond is my MO. Moreover, I enjoy creative writing personally and still toil away on my own works-in-progress in moments of spare time, which means I know what it’s like to be close to your story and attached to your characters.

In a nutshell: I’ve got an eye for detail, a fervor for polishing, an aim for excellence, and love combining my passion for editing with authors who are equally passionate about their work.
